Pool Options & Customisations

Make your Compass pool uniquely yours

Factory-made doesn’t mean cookie-cutter. Every pool we build in Melbourne can be customised — from a shallow beach entry for the kids, to a Sunpod for sunset lounging, to a full infinity edge that blurs water into landscape.

Why Customise

Your backyard. Your pool. Your call.

Every Melbourne backyard is different — the slope, the aspect, the family, the way you’ll use the space. The base pool shape is just the starting point. What turns it into your pool are the choices you make from here: a beach for paddling, a Sunpod for cocktails, a water wall for ambience, an infinity edge for drama. All engineered, manufactured and installed by the same Compass team.

Beaches & Grand Entry Benches

A shallow entry isn’t just practical — it’s where a lot of the pool’s best moments happen. Kids sitting in ankle-deep water on a hot day. Grandparents easing in without stairs. A book, a cold drink, a towel within reach.

We offer six Beach Zone sizes and two Grand Entry Beach options. They can be placed along the end, the side, or extend out from a corner of almost any pool in our range. All 40–50cm deep, all part of the same fibreglass shell, no separate structure required.

Sunpods

A Sunpod is a raised, in-pool platform sitting in ankle-to-shin-deep water. Put a deck chair on it. Put a small table on it. Sit on it with a book. Paddle from it with the kids. It turns “the pool” into a second outdoor room.

Tiled and often paired with inground water bubblers, Sunpods double as a water feature — quietly animating the whole pool even when no one’s swimming. They’re one of our most popular custom options, and one of the most cost-effective ways to add real design impact.

They can be added in any size along the edge of your pool. The Skoro Family’s 9.4 Contemporary in Bundoora (you can read their full story on our reviews page) features one — they use it daily.

Pool & Spa Combos

A cool pool next to a warm spa is one of our most requested setups — especially through Melbourne’s winter shoulder seasons when the spa gets more use than the pool. You can treat the two as separate bodies of water, each at its own temperature, or flow them together as one.

Choose from our X-Trainer Spa, Sanctuary Spa or wader options, and on newer builds the full Combo Pool range pairs pool + spa or pool + immersion pod in a single factory-made unit. Less site work, faster to install, cleaner lines.

For recovery-focused customers, the same logic extends to our Immersion Therapy Pods — hot pod next to cold pod, contrast therapy in your own backyard.

Acrylic & Disappearing Edges

Infinity edges — also called vanishing or negative edges — are where one side of the pool drops away so water appears to merge with the view beyond. Done well, they produce one of the most striking architectural effects you can put in a backyard.

We’ve been building infinity pools for 37+ years, longer than most Melbourne pool builders have been in business. The engineering is real: every job needs a catchment tank, extra pumps, and careful hydraulic design to keep the edge looking seamless. On sloping sites in the Dandenongs or Mornington Peninsula, they’re often the whole reason the pool works at all.

For homeowners who want the visual effect without the mechanical complexity, we now offer acrylic edges — same look of water meeting horizon, but with a transparent wall holding the water in. No catchment tank, no extra pumps, no noise from overflow, less heat loss. Adam Martin co-developed the Maxi Rib technology that makes free-standing infinity pools possible in the first place.

Customisation 05

Water Features & Lighting

You’ll spend more time looking at your pool than swimming in it — especially in Melbourne, where the season runs five or six months at best. A water feature turns a quiet pool into something that earns its place in the backyard year-round.

We regularly build:

  • Water walls — a tiled wall at one end with a water blade producing a steady cascade. Modern, architectural, easy to coordinate with your house finishes.
  • Waterfalls — stacked rock or natural stone, for pools that want to feel like part of the landscape.
  • Deck jets & laminars — arcing streams of water from the pool deck into the water, often lit with LED for night drama.
  • Bubblers — inground jets, usually paired with a Sunpod, that gently animate the water surface.
  • LED lighting — programmable colour lighting integrated into the pool wall, steps, water features, or decking. Transforms the pool at night.

Every feature is engineered into the pool shell or the surrounding build. Nothing bolt-on, nothing to break in five years.

Why Get A Customised Pool From Us

Six reasons Melbourne families trust us with custom builds

We’re not just a dealer installing what the factory ships. We’ve been part of developing the customisations themselves — and Melbourne backyards have tested every one of them.

40+ years in Melbourne

We’ve been building backyard pools in Melbourne since 1981 — longer than almost any competitor. We’ve seen every kind of site: narrow inner-city blocks, sloping Yarra Ranges properties, cliff-edge Peninsula installs. Whatever your backyard throws at us, we’ve built a pool for one like it.

37+ years of infinity pools

Infinity edges are one of the hardest pool builds to get right. We’ve been doing them for 37+ years — longer than most Melbourne pool companies have been in business. The engineering, the hydraulics, the catchment design: all second nature to our team.

We co-developed the tech

Adam Martin, who runs the business today, co-developed the Maxi Rib free-standing shell technology that makes many of these customisations possible. You’re not talking to a dealer who reads the brochure — you’re talking to the people who built the toolkit.

SPASA-recognised in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2025

Our most recent SPASA win was 2025 — Winner for Best Residential Fibreglass Pool Over $120,000. Most of our award wins have been on pools with significant customisation. Judges notice when the base shape disappears under the design decisions made around it.

Every site visited, not quoted blind

Custom pools fail when the builder hasn’t actually seen the site. We visit every backyard before we quote — we walk the slope, check access, look at the aspect, understand the vibe of the house. That’s how we make sure the customisations we recommend actually work.

Free design consultation

Every quote starts with a real conversation with our friendly pool consultants. They’ll walk your site, look at what your backyard actually wants, and tell you which customisations will pay off and which won’t. No surprises, no upselling, no pretending a feature works on a site where it won’t.

Recognised by the Industry

SPASA Victoria Awards for Excellence

Many of our SPASA wins were on pools with significant customisation — combos, infinity edges, beaches, Sunpods. Custom pools are where build quality, design innovation and customer outcomes really show.

Common questions about custom pools

How much does a customisation add to the pool price?

It depends entirely on the customisation. A small Beach Zone or Sunpod is a relatively modest uplift. A full infinity edge is a significant investment because it’s effectively a second, hidden pool (the catchment tank) plus extra pumps and engineering. Tell us what you’re after and we’ll cost everything out clearly — no surprises.

Can I combine multiple customisations?

Yes — this is where Compass pools really shine. One of our SPASA-winning pools featured a pool-and-spa combo with infinity edges on both, plus a wader attached. The factory process means every customisation is engineered to fit together before the shell leaves the plant.

Will my site support an infinity edge?

Infinity edges work best on sloping or elevated sites where the horizon extends beyond the pool — hillside blocks, properties with a view, or above-ground installs on flat sites. If you’re on a standard flat block with a fence at the boundary, the effect won’t land the same way. Our team will tell you honestly before you commit.

What’s the difference between infinity and acrylic edges?

An infinity edge has water flowing over the rim into a hidden catchment tank below, then pumped back up. An acrylic edge uses a transparent wall to hold the water at the top of the pool — you get the same “water to horizon” visual but without the noise, extra tank, or extra pumps. Acrylic is usually a better call for residential Melbourne sites; infinity is dramatic where the site warrants it.

Can I add a customisation to a pool I already have?

For structural customisations — Beach Zone, Grand Entry Bench, Sunpod, spa combo, infinity edge — no. They’re engineered into the fibreglass shell at the factory and can’t be retrofitted. For water features, LED lighting, and some deck jet setups, we can often retrofit to an existing pool. Ask us what’s feasible for your pool.

How do I start designing my custom pool?

Arrange a free site inspection using the form above. Our pool consultants will walk through your site, your family, your priorities — and from there we’ll sketch out which pool shape and customisations will actually work for your backyard. No commitment.
