The Project
A pool on a garage roof, with a view that didn’t want to be wasted
The client had a stunning Port Phillip Bay view but limited buildable area — the only available space was on top of the garage. The brief: build a fibreglass pool, spa and wader that becomes part of everyday living, with the view as the backdrop. The result won the SPASA 2023 Highly Recommended Award (over $120,000) and is one of the most engineered domestic builds we’ve ever delivered.
The challenge
Pool, spa and beach — on top of a garage that wasn’t engineered for a pool.
The existing garage couldn’t take a standard pool’s structural load. The whole assembly had to be freestanding, supported by its own framework, and light enough that no additional strengthening of the garage was required. Three vessels at three different floor depths (1.45m, 1.1m, 500mm) made the structural problem even more interesting.
Custom lap pool length
Our standard 10m Lap Pool, modified at the factory to 6.7m internal — the only shape in our range that allows this.
The Lap Pool mould is unique in our range — its construction method lets us customise the internal length at the factory. The 10m base shape was modified to a 6.7m internal waterline to fit the available footprint. No on-site trimming, no compromise on shape — a custom-length lap pool built from scratch.
Light enough for a roof
Built on a foam base — the garage didn’t need any additional structural reinforcement.
The fibreglass shell is light. Combined with a foam base distributing the load, the entire assembly sits on the existing garage roof without requiring engineering of the structure below. Elaborate framework above the roofline supports the three different depths and the vessel positions.
Three vessels, fully automatic
In-floor cleaning across pool, spa and wader — with separate or combined heating, controlled from inside.
Nexus-linked construction connects all three Compass vessels as one water body for circulation and cleaning. Vantage in-floor heads sweep each shell. The control system inside the house lets the family heat the whole assembly together or isolate the spa for hot-only running. Fully automatic, no daily tinkering.

The Lap Pool shape is the only one in our range that allows internal length customisation. We started with the 10m mould and built a 6.7m custom-length version at the factory — no on-site cutting, no compromise on proportions.
