The slim X-Trainer — a real lap pool for the kind of block that says “no pool”
Louise’s family wanted a proper swimming pool on a narrow Aberfeldie block with a noticeable slope. Standard fibreglass pools wouldn’t fit. The X-Trainer 7.15 SL — the slim variant of our most popular shape — was designed for exactly this situation.
Louise’s family wanted a proper swimming pool on a narrow Aberfeldie block with a noticeable slope and difficult access. Standard fibreglass pools wouldn’t fit, and getting one in took serious engineering — including borrowing the neighbour’s site for two days. The X-Trainer 7.15 SL slim variant made it possible.
The site challenge
Narrow, sloping, and so tight we had to dig through the neighbour’s property.
Access was so constrained that we used smaller machinery, brought stabilised material in piece by piece, and relied on the neighbour letting us work from their site. The dig alone took two days. Inner-north-west Melbourne blocks rarely give you any other option.
The slope solution
A 400mm height difference, solved with a wrap-edge concrete beam.
The block sloped enough that the pool needed to sit 400mm above the lower ground level. We engineered a wrap-edge concrete beam to take that load, which puts the pool at the right height for the backyard while structurally handling the slope.
The slim variant
The 7.15 SL is purpose-built — narrower mould, twin end-steps preserved, real lap pool.
The SL isn’t a stretched standard shape. It’s a genuinely narrower mould with the X-Trainer’s signature twin-end-step layout retained. The result reads as a real pool, not a courtyard plunge pretending. Atlantic Bi-luminite gives a tight urban pool real visual weight against the surrounding red brick.
Louise’s verdict, 12 months in
“We weren’t 100% sure about the self-cleaning. All we have to do now is clean the filter — it’s super easy.”
The sales team suggested Vantage self-cleaning and Louise wasn’t initially convinced. Twelve months on, her only ongoing maintenance is the filter clean. Heated by an Evo heat pump, lit with colour-changing Spa Electric LED pool lights — the kind of equipment selection that turns a small urban pool into one used year-round.
