The Project
A pool at deck level — not buried at the bottom of the back yard
With a view over the surrounding countryside, the design decision was simple: put the pool where it can be seen and used as part of the deck, not down at the back of the property. The way to do that with a fibreglass pool was Maxi Rib freestanding technology.
The brief
Match the pool to the existing deck level — don’t lose the country view.
The natural site had the back yard sitting well below the existing deck. Dropping a pool into the lower yard would have meant looking down at it from the house and losing all the spatial connection between living area and pool. The brief inverted that — bring the pool up to the deck.
Maxi Rib structural ribbing
Our exclusive rib technology lets a fibreglass pool sit freestanding above the natural ground level.
Standard fibreglass pools need to sit in the ground — the surrounding soil and concrete carry the load. Maxi Rib is different: structural ribs all round the shell, supplied as part of the build, locked into concrete reinforcing. The pool becomes a self-supporting structure that stands independent of the ground around it.
The honest tradeoff
Costs more than going low. Worth it for the right site.
Building a freestanding fibreglass pool adds noticeably to the cost vs dropping a standard inground pool into a lower section of the yard. The math goes in favour of freestanding when the site has a view worth keeping, a level difference worth respecting, or an existing deck that the pool can extend from. On this site, all three were true.
